Trust your children and surprise them!

My parents gave me some great parenting advice that I use in my life all the time:
Children respond positively when you trust them with something that they don’t expect you to trust them with. When they are trusted with something and complete the task successfully (with careful supervision!) it bolsters their self-esteem and makes the bond between parent and child stronger.

I’ve used this principal with my children time and time again, and it has always proven to be a great bonding experience.  Of course, I have carefully supervised what they were doing and have practiced extreme patience! However, my patience was rewarded with a huge smile and hug. That’s all a Mom can ask for!
